"Chant on all you like" John told us - "There'll be more chilly blasts before the Daffodils burst!"
Sparkling Lemon is beside herself... she's bursting to get into her new Warmers - little minx!
Well, I can't stop - Jean said there's a new fireplace arriving, and wise old Sage & Citrus boasted that she knew that meant warmth - so we're all agog, it's so cold in here most of the time! Even that new Ocean Water said she was frozen the other night, so how she thinks BeachWalk feels I really don't know.........
More soon, if we can regain access.
Yours Tartfully

Tarts Abroad - Spread that Fragrance!
Well!! - Let me tell you straight away that we've heard from "Rose of Morocco" and she HAS arrived home in Morocco in one piece...... John said Jean had heard from Auntie Kate by T X T, whatever that is!? Isn't that good news though because before she left Auntie Kate told us she was a bit worried about "hitches" on the way. Apparently they had some difficult "lifts" to negotiate en route, and we smiled knowingly - not having a clue what she meant. They must have walked a lot though because Jean said they were hiking. We've seen a map but although it didn't look far there seemed a lot of sea in the way, we don't know yet how Kate got over that - but we'll find out when she gets back, you mark my words we will!!!
It's been quite a difficult time since I last wrote because Jean has been ill with Flu and an awful cough so John has been here a lot. He sneezes so loudly it frightens us all and our poor nerves have been on edge for weeks.... Jean is recovering now and Auntie Hannah told me that she would be back in the shop this weekend (we bet it will be on Sunday with Hannah).
More excitement from abroad - Jean heard from rich Auntie Karen in Canada - and "Freesia" is now wafting her fragrance through British Columbia. If only she was still here to enjoy this Spring though, we miss her!
Becca stunned us all two weeks ago when she appeared with a "Little Brown Bag" - so like her too - she said it was "well" something or other and we all nodded in sage agreement - so pleased to see a touch of another american style in the shop!
We're all on edge now waiting for "Sunwashed Linen" to make a come-back. She'll probably arrive with "Amber Glow" and "Beachwalk" who are the latest new arrivals due in from Stateside. John says we'll like them, but he said that about "Greenhouse" when she arrived and now she's overcooked it and been discontinued (probably for growing all that mist and green mould she used to surround herself with).
It's a relief to have got past Easter you know, it was so busy again - just like Christmas! That's exaggerating, and I know it but we couldn't believe it when we had a "White Easter" with all that snow!!!! We were glad to see the back of all those little chicks, rabbits and ducks - and the eggs kept on making cracking noises at night pretending they were hatching out dinosaurs - we got really tired of their antics I can tell you.
Now it's April - and we don't think we suffered any April Fool jokes at all - just another batch of "for-kandle" wisecracks as usual. It's still over 4 months to the Italian Wedding, but wrangling over who should go is still going on, even "Spring Bouquet" thought she should be there for the Bride to toss in the air! What a silly tart she can be, doesn't she realise it will be near the end of summer then and she'll be well out of season?
Must dash, John is arriving to open the shop so we're all trying to sit still and look pretty - it is Saturday you know and we all want to be bought and go visiting customers' houses and spreading our fragrances like good tarts should!
I'll tell you next time about the big news - guess who's coming back to the shop......... No, you have to guess.................... tell you next time

Return of the Sunwashed - A Two Way Ticket for a Solar Wanderer
Dear Diary, how I love to start off with a good news story.....
We can hardly believe it - we thought she had left us for good - but HOORAY!!!! "Sunwashed Linen" has been given a reprieve and we hope to see her back with us very soon.
Now this might have annoyed "Country Linen" a few weeks ago because she wanted "Clean Cotton" to herself for a bit. But she has been so tired of trying to make friends with Cleopatra (sorry to say we've been a bit rude about "Egyptian Cotton" and her high and mighty ways) to form a Fresher than Fresh Fragrance Club. So she will now be over the moon to have "Sunwashed Linen" back in the trays, they always got on very well before.
Becca was pleased to hear that, though of course she had been secretly hoping that "Buttercream" would be the one to stay. We're all delighted down at our end of the shop but "Brazilian Passion Fruit" made some very uncalled for and ribald fruity jokes with "New Zealand Wild Berry" and "Greek Fig & Plum" - we all know that some customers with poor eyesight refer to "Sunwashed Linen" as "that very odd-sounding Unwashed fragrance" - but we didn't need reminding!! Just because they live two steps higher than most of us - those World Series girls do sometimes act very high and mighty. If only "Harvest" was still here, she used to be able to bring any old fruit down a peg or two!!
Guess what John said yesterday.......... go on, it's about Uncle Paul and some pictures for the Spider's Web....... he said something we thought was - that Uncle Paul had sent him a seedy load of pictures that he wouldn't be able to get "inter his net"???? It sounded dreadful, and not like John at all - but Jean was explaining to Auntie Bombana today and apparently it was a CD full of pictures of all our ancestors, so old that John couldn't use it on our Web Site (we still don't know what that is). We want to see these pictures though, Jean mentioned old mother "Plumeria", that wanton "Ginger Spice Cookie" and our old outdoor girl "Meadow Mist". I didn't know some of our old Great Aunts but Jean is going to ask John for some of the pictures for Hannah - won't that be fun - she'll show them to us I know she will.
I haven't seen you here since the tin Fairies arrived, though I might have missed you if I took a little nap, - they have been so very popular with the customers and all the ones we knew as "Vera" have already left. Doris is still here and we had a fright today when she completely lost her head...... a customer dropped her and her poor head went spinning under the candlestick shelves!!! "Blackberry" told us about it, she had a grandstand view from the Discontinued Combi. Luckily John knows how to repair Doris, Jean said he's very good with girls who've lost their heads, apparently he worked with some people called the TA and Jean thought all the girls there were crazy, we don't know why!!!?? It was a long time ago so maybe they've all recovered by now.
I just know you'll be glad to hear that "the dog who loves bears" is still around town. He came in the other day - but luckily he didn't go round the back of the shop so he missed all the little stripy Bruins and spotted Ruperts hiding in their basket!! Not many dogs come into our little world so he's a real novelty, even if he did make a mess of "Shortbread Cookie"s petticoat and frills - she was a soggy mess when he'd gone!!
Oh my goodness, just look at the time ......... it's Monday tomorrow so we've got some work to do now, we've decided to all sit with Mrs Schoolmaam Duck while she reads out the Yankee Rules for Good Little Tarts to us (that's what we believe it is - most of our customers get a copy in their Yankee Bags). We're all going up to the dark end of the shop but she'll be able to read it from her enlightened memory, whatever that means - she's a very high-fallutin Duck you know, she doesn't even need lenses in her specs - she says she can see right through us tarts and we all deserve to be told what's what!!!! We can hardly wait ......... must go now ...... Byeeeeeeee

Tarts in Crisis - We Need Your Help
Oh, I'm so pleased to see you haven't forgotten us! Last night began as fun - the "Knees Up" went so well that even the Fat Cockerel Doorstops lost some weight!!
After that the night was ruined by such silly bickerings, too many teenage flare-ups and brittle glass sensibilities.......... it was all over who should go on holiday with Jean and John (and apparently it's ages away yet!!).
"Wedding Day" had heard Becca mention that this wedding in Italy would be just perfect for her (as is the tailor-made holiday for "Rose of Morocco" with Auntie Kate). But "Sicilian Orange" upset a lot of us by threatening to tell her Godfather if she wasn't allowed to go - especially as Stuart proposed to his lovely affianced in Sicily!! This Godfather sounds a bit of an ogre, an ancient "Brown Sugar and Spice" Mom (large jar) round the back told about the American side of this family and they do sound very violent (they have some sort of Gun Machine that kills people they don't like!! - How awful, I'm glad we're here in York, it's lovely here..........
Anyway, "Greek Fig and Blackcurrant" became so very agitated about wanting to go too that she dribbled Ribena all over "Vera Cruz Vanilla" and caused a terrible commotion on the World Series Shelves. "Sicilian Orange" threatened to put her in something called a strait jacket - but "Canary Island Banana" said it would probably be concrete boots - I don't know what that meant but "Indonesian Ginger" screamed out and said there was no call for language of that sort in this shop.
There are so many of us lovely young Tarts just aching to see a bit of the world, and Italy in particular, that we more sensible girls have proposed it should be put to a wider audience to decide who goes - we can't all go as John says the plane wouldn't get off the ground (it sounds as though it only has 2 Jets!!). So, we're going to run a competition here on this page so that you can vote for who goes. Jean has decided that she and Auntie Bombana will make up a short-list of those who can qualify - so that's a big NO to "Frosted Pumpkin" for a start............ and then I have been given a small team of us more sensible Tarts to tart our wares to you and then take votes on who should go - only 3 will make it as John says that's already more Tarts than he can handle!!! He does talk nonsense sometimes, I've seen him carry dozens of us in one hand!!! Jean says that "Wedding Day" is already prequalified, so there will be room for 2 more for you to choose - and I'll get back to you when my fragrant committee have a shortlist. We can't argue with Jean, even John admits that sometimes she really is "The Boss".
So, we'll need your help, don't forget us will you? I'm going to write to Auntie Astrid in Bossland, and Uncle Paul (that used to visit us a lot) and they will be pleased to hear that you are taking part - it's all one happy family now (if only it had been like this all night!!!).
John says he will keep "Sicilian Orange" in line because he's "....a Grandfather three times over and some waxy Godfather doesn't frighten him" !!! (Jean says John was a train-killer in his younger day - though we don't know what a train-killer is?? - anyway it sounds pretty tough to us.
"Evening Primrose" just laughed at "Country Linen" and me because she is sure Jean said "trained killer", and apparently she knows what a train is because a customer she knows works at the Railway Museum...... Well, that's odd because John was up at the Railway Museum the other morning working on some School Technology Competition - maybe he was getting a new train or something to use on "Sicilian Orange"??
Anyway, I have to go now because the shop is about to open and I've got to get down to the front of the tray - John will be in on his own today and I want to hear what Jean tells him to do, he always forgets you know - or he's too deaf to hear properly so he just does what he wants - it's amazing what he gets away with!!
Old Momma "Brown Sugar and Spice" says I have to wave one hand and say to you - "I'll be back" - it makes her laugh so much she says it's in-congrewelous (or something like that) seeing a pretty young tart saying that. We just humour her because she's very strong and she's been around a long time, and don't forget - it was her young tarts that we thought survived a while in John's drawers........... haha, must go..... Byeeeeeeeeeeee, I'll be Back

More Frills and Frolics - Spring is in the Air !!
We had a wonderful girlie weekend here in Stonegate last weekend - John was away so Becca and Hannah had a free for all with Jean and really tarted us all up ready for a visit by Auntie Astrid from Bossland at Yankee Candle. We were really pleased when that rather overpowering "Spring Bouquet" was replaced in the window by "Vanilla Lime", she's such a bossy boots at this time of year whereas "Vanilla Lime" is just sweet and unassuming - just really nice - like Auntie Kate.
None of us can remember the shop ever being this full of flowers before - it's Jean - she loves them! She ran out of vases you know, but she still managed to put them out somehow. We don't mind at all it sets off our pretty fragrances so well - though "Roasted Coffee" is feeling a bit out of place ............ and "Freesia" is livid that she has been discontinued.
Did you know that Kate is off to Morocco shortly and she is getting excited - but not nearly as excited as "Rose of Morocco" because Kate is taking her on the trip too, with two of her sisters for Kate's friends!! "Freesia" was particularly upset about her coming demise when everyone else seemed happy and wept, and wept - she cried that she had never been allowed to go anywhere wonderful (surely York is better than anywhere else anyway!!??). Jean took pity on her and she carefully parcelled up "Freesia's" big sister (we call her "Small Jar") and sent her on a long journey over the sea to rich Auntie Karen in Canada so that "Freesia" would have an adventure to sing about as Spring comes rolling in.
We just don't understand some people that come in here. You'd think that they would be so keen to try a fresh Spring fragrance - "Sparkling Lemon", "Spring Bouquet", "Midnight Jasmine" and "Sheer Gardenia" all preen themselves and wriggle to the front edge of their trays in anticipation (forward little madams at times they are!) but then customers can be heard enthusing over "Farmhouse Apple" and "Harvest" instead. We just can't understand it, we've never been able to follow some human behaviour at all!!! John says it's only natural and we should just relax and enjoy his company - but what does he know, he's only a man!!!
What a quiet week it's proving to be, not a Prada or Fendi Bag in sight, only windswept hair and waterproofs! We know it will liven up next week but we will miss Kate for a while (except our excited friend Rose of course).
John and Jean are talking about going to Italy this year, guess why, that hunk of a son of theirs (we saw him 10 days ago) is getting married and they'll be away celebrating it. Of course, there could be a bit of strife in the shop nearer the day because there is a lot of competition to be taken with them - "Mediterranean Cypress", "Sun and Sand" and "Midsummer Night" all think they'll be going along for a holiday.............. oh dear, I do hate strife!! Anyway, it's time for a knees up with the Schoolhouse Ducks tonight - so we'll all enjoy that........ Byeeeeeeeeeeeee

Duck Eggs and Chickens - What a Scramble
We're surrounded by eggs, ducks and chickens!! How is a young tart to keep her poise, look elegant and smell "oh so sweet" when the shop is like a menagerie??!! Luckily the eggs and tin ducks are sailing out in huge numbers and we should be able to relax a bit in a week or so.....
Those little chickens are so cute - but how annoying as they "cheep-cheep-cheep" all day and because John is deaf he doesn't notice how much they disturb us poor tarts (and Cheap just isn't a word in our repertoire!). Still, I suppose it IS better than enduring those Bunny Hoppers we had in last week, they spent all night jumping all over the place - thoroughly un-nerving for a young tart who needs her beauty sleep!!
Now - guess what we saw in the shop today!!!! No, not one of those - a genuine Fendi Spy Bag!! It was "Sparkling Lemon" who spotted it first, she's a sharp one - and while "Star Fruit & Orange" was hotly disputing who was fruitiest with "Mango Blossom" the bag bobbed by. What excitement, "Cottage Breeze" almost jumped out of her tray!! We're waiting for the first Mui Mui now, but who knows if we'll catch a glimpse of one - though we do know someone who has a real yearning for one and won't be satisfied until her Chloe Paddington has a Drawer Companion!
Jean had a day off, then she came back with armloads of lovely flowers - but they didn't smell nice like we all do!! Customers keep taking them away in bags and tissue so they must be for sale - we have so much competition here, but it keeps us an our toes. We had a chance to shine and preen and show just how delectably gorgeous we are today as John was busy with his camera taking pictures - but the flashes made even my poor eyes spotty, and "Midsummer Night" was totally dazzled by them. She looked particularly black as thunder afterwards, especially when she heard the photos were for John's pet spider - we think so anyway because Hannah said they were for putting on his Web....
It's not all glamour and hot, sweet temptation in these trays you know - poor "Creme Brule" had a choking fit after almost having an eye poked out this afternoon when some little terror in a tartan skirt tried to poke a finger through her crust to have a taste of the Brule!! What is the younger generation coming to - we are kept pretty much in line beneath our parent Housewarmer Jars and wouldn't dream of misbehaving (well - not while the shop is open to customers anyway!).
I do think that John and Jean should charge an entrance fee, it doesn't seem fair that people can just come in and smell our fragrance, and then just walk out without taking one of us home. And I don't know why John always laughs when he does sell a handful of us to a man - he just mentions "not many men can just walk home with a tart or two and get away with it like this" - I just can't see the joke myself?
Well, there - I got all negative, not like me - now I've gone and crinkled my petticoat! I must calm down and be more like our long lost cousin "Cucumber and Cantaloupe", she was a cool one - just like "Willow Breeze" is now (a breath of fresh air if ever we smelt one).
We had a giggle at teatime because we could see two little boys outside the window with weird biscuits held in grubby little hands - it reminded "Clean Cotton" of the Slim Lady's visit last Friday. John had mentioned Mother's Day to her and she said she was expecting to nibble some cakes made by a Cub Scout - John laughed and asked if they would be grey ones! We didn't know what he meant until we saw these two with their biscuits - what a mess!!!! We hope she survives, she's so very neat to be eating crumbly grey cakes!
Well, I really must go now, we've a bit of a spread to attend as one of the Pot Pourri Bags has wobbled onto the floor and burst. We're going to dance on her fragrant bits and then put them all in one of the lovely white Baths that Jean is so fond of. I will be back - I've still to tell you about the Tin Fairies and Kate's wild Show!! Take care......

OMG - it moved again!! Shake, Rattle and Roll...
They didn't prepare me for this in Tart School - this time we were tremoring in earnest! The World moved for real ...... Don't tell me you slept through it all?!
There we were settled in our trays, York began to quieten down (it was a Tuesday night) - when BANG-Crash-Shudder - we thought the night club above had suddenly livened up again!! It turned into a 5 tray rumble as all the Combis shook, Jars moved to shelf edges and the Samplers all turned their backs and hid their labels ..... "Mediterranean Cyprus" stood firm and with help from a very calm "New Zealand Berry" (who would have thought she'd be calm with such a red face!??) pacified us and allayed our fears, they'd heard it all before.
Poor "Wedding Day" was beside herself, she thought it was the END and she still hasn't had her big day. She might yet make it to a honeymoon!
Well, isn't life full of surprises? We forgot all about the "Coffin" that was due until "Clean Cut Cotton" (she's a sharp one and no mistake) hissed to us all that one was arriving ...... it was only one of those CGB boxes, they're just so big that John always calls them coffins - and he nearly breaks his neck taking them down the stairs!
I can't stay longer now - Kate is cramming top-ups all over us and then we think she's away for a few days rehearsing - we can't think what she's rehearsing, she's a student so she's well practised at that already??? I'll let you know when she gets back, there's bound to be a bit of gossip to pass on, though I'm not always sure I understand it all!
Byeee for now, and feel free to send us any messages you like (be nice - we're quite fragile).
