OMG - it moved again!! Shake, Rattle and Roll...

They didn't prepare me for this in Tart School - this time we were tremoring in earnest! The World moved for real ...... Don't tell me you slept through it all?!
There we were settled in our trays, York began to quieten down (it was a Tuesday night) - when BANG-Crash-Shudder - we thought the night club above had suddenly livened up again!! It turned into a 5 tray rumble as all the Combis shook, Jars moved to shelf edges and the Samplers all turned their backs and hid their labels ..... "Mediterranean Cyprus" stood firm and with help from a very calm "New Zealand Berry" (who would have thought she'd be calm with such a red face!??) pacified us and allayed our fears, they'd heard it all before.
Poor "Wedding Day" was beside herself, she thought it was the END and she still hasn't had her big day. She might yet make it to a honeymoon!
Well, isn't life full of surprises? We forgot all about the "Coffin" that was due until "Clean Cut Cotton" (she's a sharp one and no mistake) hissed to us all that one was arriving ...... it was only one of those CGB boxes, they're just so big that John always calls them coffins - and he nearly breaks his neck taking them down the stairs!

I can't stay longer now - Kate is cramming top-ups all over us and then we think she's away for a few days rehearsing - we can't think what she's rehearsing, she's a student so she's well practised at that already??? I'll let you know when she gets back, there's bound to be a bit of gossip to pass on, though I'm not always sure I understand it all!

Byeee for now, and feel free to send us any messages you like (be nice - we're quite fragile).

What a thrill - the World moved!!

We trembled in our trays this morning - Jean told Kate they were going to move the World!
"Vanilla Cupcake" dribbled down her petticoat, and we could hear "Buttercream" wailing in despair (she was always a softie!). "Midnight Cove" has ears like Conche Shells and she set our minds at rest when she heard the clatter of "Canary Island Banana" moving from one combi to another - it was some relief but we did feel a bit stupid!!
So - by lunchtime Jean was boasting how they'd "moved the world" with hardly a tremor ..... without realising how flustered we poor tarts had been. At least sweet "Rose of Morocco" is now further from those horrid room sprays - they're forever hissing at us when customer sneak a quick spray. It never seemd to bother "Tahitian Tiare", I think she was so used to sea spray that it felt a bit like home. She's very popular you know - never sits on a shelf or in a tray for long - we think she has magical powers. Whatever it is, she's one tart that many take home with them, even the gentlemen, who always have a chuckle at being allowed a fragrant tart for a day - it's a bit like the Four Candles joke for us........... but they enjoy it anyway!!!
Now tomorrow could be a very strange day, Jean mentioned that a coffin was due and we're all a bit shaky wondering what that could mean for us. There's Spring to prepare for and we really don't want a coffin on the shop floor - maybe John will move it............. oh dear, poor "Creme Brulee" is in quite a mess over it........ I'll have to help her......... Byeeeee for now

Tres Combis

Well, I can't believe a day has passed - it's been so pleasant after all despite one or two shocks! We found that Jean wasn't planning on replacing us with China Baths and Pot Pourri.... and Hannah's been a doll all day. She keeps us tidy and smoothes our ruffled packets when children have mauled us with sticky fingers. She does love her handbags by the way, which is only right for a young lady after all - and I just wanted you to know that there are some feminine aspects that we tarts just adore.
"Baby Powder" had a very busy day today, quite stressful - with one customer questioning her license to thrill, but "Egyptian Cotton" was very unsympathetic - ladying it out there on her own personal stand, who does she think she is - Cleopatra???!
"Water Garden" also had her own stand for a while but she played it cool, as a proper little lady should, and we all admired her poise.
There was a buzz around this afternoon when we heard news from our rich Auntie K in Canada, now there's a woman that really understands us, apparently she's still using inflatable furniture (must be some weird canadian custom - I hear they also suck the juice from maple trees - yukk!!).
Speaking of sticky fragrances, we were all a bit concerned about John this morning (especially "Vanilla Cupcake") when Jean mentioned that he kept old cousin "Brown Sugar and Spice" in his drawers!!!! My goodness, how horrific, we thought there could be no worse fate for a tart of any age to endure!! Luckily we found out later that she lives in one of his Study Drawers, with cousin "Ginger Spice Cookie"!! What a relief that was I can tell you, we hadn't seen either of them for a year or so and are relieved to hear that their supposed ordeal was just imaginary!!
"Evening Primrose" and "Fresh Cut Roses" were comparing petal structure with "Rose of Morocco" at lunchtime (you should smell those awful pastie smells from the Club upstairs - yu-u-uk!!) and someone (it must have been "Lavender Sage" - who is very cut up at being discontinued) mentioned the Wars of the Roses. Not a very sensible comment when Jean tells us all not to mention she was from Lancashire, and there were local customers in at the time too!! ........ Anyway, it seems that John is going to ask Auntie Helen to send us messages from Bolton, she's a very grown up lady now you know (and Noel thinks so too!).
Better get on now, we've our petticoats to wax - you don't think we look this good without effort do you? I think it's "Vanilla Lime" in liner for the Tart Warmer tomorrow because we've some flower garlands due in from Cornwall and Jean wants a nice warm Spring fragrance to make them feel at home!! She is thoughtful you know, and we don't care what John says about her - we all like her (even "Island Spa" who caught the sharp end of Jean's tongue after failing to inspire during her warming session).
Now don't be a stranger, we're all here waiting for you - except poor "Cinnamon Stick" who was snapped up in bulk by the But**** when they called (they do miss dear old "Harvest", despite her very Autumnal stickiness!).
See you later X

My Home - The Candle Shop - York

Hello, how nice to see you, I do enjoy a good visit...........
Today was an exciting day for us tarts - we're the beautifully fragrant young things that everyone has a passion about ........ you'll know us if you've visited, made by the Yankee Candle Company and displayed in all our finery by Jean and John in Stonegate!!
Well, we've been on the move all day - some elegant young new arrivals wanted space in the trays and a few poor dears had to move out to the "Discontinued" shelves ....... oh the ignomy of it all, no wonder we had the vapours - I almost melted myself, and me nearest the front door too with plenty of fresh yorkshire air to keep me cool!!
"Good Morning" has been sweltering all day in the Electric Tart Warmer and poor "Clean Cotton" almost ran out, I heard John cursing that the Samplers were taking over all the space and worried that I too might be packed off to "Discontinued Discord"...... but I made it to the end of the day and reassured "Midnight Jasmine" that a tart's life could be fun despite the jostling and rough handling of the customers.
Poor "Freesia" has gone you know, several customers complained and asked what they could do to find a touch of Spring - that strangely red-faced young "Evening Primrose" and a very pansy-like "Sweet Violet" were pressganged into service in a hurry (most unladylike if you ask me - !!).
I don't know what tomorrow will bring - Jean is apparently determined to give pride of place to her new Bath and Jug, whatever they are, and we've heard that Pot Pourri is piled high in the cellar and is going to be given some of our space on the shelves. What will become of us all? I'm close to break-down again, I'm coming over all squishy and fragrant - and no wonder - I ask you - how's a young lady to cope????
